Carbon Monoxide  Carbon Monoxide is called the silent killer because it is odorless and colorless. It can be given off by any natural gas or propane burning appliance. The main source in your home will be furnace, hot water heater, gas stove/oven.
Natural Gas heating systems are the leading cause of carbon monoxide deaths in the United States, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. When a natural gas heating system malfunctions, it produces odorless carbon monoxide. With no fumes or smoke to give warning, poisoning victims are easily asphyxiated by the carbon monoxide. Children and adults with lower body weights are affected quicker and at lower concentrations than larger adults.
